Mary Chapman

Chief Executive of the Chartered Management Institute

Current practice in human capital measurement and its value in predicting company performance

Recent interest in human capital measurement and reporting has brought the people issues in organisations more strongly into focus for all company directors and the investment community. Although the new company
reporting requirements have not made HCM metrics mandatory, there is agreement that such data would be valuable if a framework existed that enabled intelligent comparison.

In this session Mary Chapman will share the findings of research into current practice in human capital measurement and its perceived value in predicting company performance. This will be followed by a discussion of the factors that most influence performance and the issues arising in the application and communication of HCM measures.

Mary Chapman is Chief Executive of the Chartered Management Institute.  In December 1993 Mary became the first Chief Executive of Investors in People UK, and established IIP as the national standard for effective training and development. She spent 12 years with the L’OREAL Group initially in marketing management, later as Managing Director of Helena Rubinstein and finally as Director of Personnel Operations and Management Development.

Feedback

I found the presentation to be informative and useful and Mary is an engaging speaker. I would have liked more information on how companies had put HMC into practice.

Useful discussion and thought provokling questions, but I would have liked it to be rather more practical.

An interesting talk and it was good to get a discussion going for the second part. I think my only negative would be that as a location Farringdon is not that easy to access.

Well presented, good speaker, had some very interesting points to make. Took a long time to get to the nub of the findings. Could have done without the pitch on the work of BIM

An interesting event. This is not a particularly hot issue for my firm but gave me some ideas for how we might measure some aspects of performance.
