The London HR Connection is delighted to welcome April’s guest speaker, Neil Morrison. One of the UK’s highest profile HR professionals, a former HRD of the Year and a familiar face at HR conferences in the media, Neil is the director for strategy, culture and innovation at Penguin Random House, one of the world’s leading publishing houses.
Neil will be talking to our guests about the innovative approach to recruitment his company has taken and how it fits into and helps drive the wider HR strategy.
Every time you advertise a role, you have hundreds of applicants from some of the top schools and universities around. But how do you know that they’re the best applicants you could have? What if there are many more talented people out there that you’re simply not connecting with? And does best academic performance equal best job performance?
These were the questions that Penguin Random House wanted to answer to help the business to continue to transform and grow in an increasingly competitive marketplace. The results led to an overhaul of the resourcing strategy, a removal for the requirement to have any formal academic qualification, a reappraisal of the value of work experience and a UK tour with a three-foot-high wooden penguin.
With grateful thanks to our hosts Mercer.
